I was really impressed by the work shown at Learning Technologies 2009 last week by Kirstie Donnelly and Deborah Prynne of learndirect. Their new childcare course, currently being piloted, is composed of an interesting blend of formal and informal approaches:
- each student has a personalised home page featuring news, bookmarked content, details of friends, 'my discussions', 'my questions' and rss feeds;
- e-learning materials, developed by Kineo;
- formal assessment for a National Vocational Qualification using an e-portfolio;
As part of their presentation, Kirstie and Deborah showed the following video, featuring Stacey, a learner of today:

this was nice, you might want to post this at www.helpmetutors.com
ReplyDeleteInteresting stuff - we should be proud of the 2.5 million learners that UFI/learndirect have put through online courses. In this organisation we have a 21st century solution for FE and schools that takes us beyond the old classroom only model.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this Clive as I enjoyed the session last week and I was trying to locate it to share with my colleagues here as another way to look at our early years audience. Trouble is, I can't open it. Is there another link I can try?
ReplyDeleteHi Katherine. I don't believe there is another link to this video, but if you contact me directly, I can put you in touch with the people from learndirect.
